One major issue people are thinking about are the gas prices. I, for one, do not like President Bush. I am like most Americans.. his approval rate is 28%. However, I know that the current state of the gas prices are not his fault. I repeat, not his fault. Here's a little explanation about how gas prices work.
Oil companies get 4% of gas profits. Yes, it's true that Bush has oil wealth... but 4% is not quite the 'profit' most people seem to think they get. The government gets 15% of the gas profits. The government, for sitting there and doing nothing, gets 15%. The oil companies, who esentially, do all the work, get 4%. The other 80%, guess where that goes? To the countries we are getting the oil from. And these countries currently have a high price of gas. The US is doing a good job of keeping a low federal tax on gas (Thank you Bush tax cuts). You think our gas prices are high? Look at Europe and Canada.... they're both already up to 8-9 US$ per gallon. They have a higher federal gas tax...and with Obama.... ours will just go up. He voted against the gas tax holiday that McCain proposed, and he wants to tax the oil companies. If the oil companies get taxed, they will just tax us more.
Now, drilling here. 77% of Americans believe we should drill here. Estimations have shown we have enough gas in the US to last us 100 years, which is more than enough, with the new hybrid car technology that is coming out. So why does no one want us to drill? China and Cuba are dilling 60 miles off the coast of Florida, but the American government does not want us to. And not to talk bad about my party... but all Democrats but 5 in the Senate voted against drilling, along with 8 Republicans. To be fair, neither Obama nor McCain voted for drilling. A senator FROM Alaska voted for drilling there, but the other senators said no.
That said, neither Obama nor McCain wants to drill in America. --START EDIT-- THIS JUST IN: McCain is READY to drill. He has taken back his statement and wants to drill nere, drill now, PAY LESS. --END EDIT-- But we have a better chance with McCain because let's face it.... as much as we like him and agree with his policies, he IS still a republican. All but 8 republicans voted for drilling here. We have a much better chance of drilling in America if McCain is elected President.
